The CAFS Institute believes the effective use of compressed air foam represents a significant safety advantage for both fire fighters and civilians who live and work in the communities they protect.

The CAFS Institute is proud to announce our “50% in 10” initiative. Simply, our mission is to increase the fire service’s rate of effective implementation of CAFS technology. We want to see at least 50% of the over 30,000 individual fire districts within the United States adopt compressed air foam technology in the next 10 years. Our “50% in 10” program is a call to action for local level fire management -- immediate action is required today to take advantage of the benefits of CAFS technology.

Compressed air foam, when effectively applied, can reduce firefighter exposure to heat and toxic products of combustion, thereby reducing stress and increasing health and safety.
Since effective compressed air foam application extinguishes fire faster and uses less total water supply, as compared to traditional water application, second and third alarm assignments are deployed for less time which means that fire apparatus are active on roadways at emergency speed for less time. This reduces the chance of apparatus crashes and resulting firefighter injury and fatality.
The public deserves to be protected by the very best, most efficient means of fire suppression available; one that minimizes property loss from fire and causes the least water damage to their homes and possessions — compressed air foam.
New technology is playing an ever increasing role in the fire service’s future. The CAFS Institute’s mission is to provide the fire service with training and education on CAFS best practices to allow for smoother transition to the effective use of compressed air foam at the local level.
