Strategy and Tactics Training Programs

Compressed Air Foam Strategy and Tactics Workshop

coverThis is a two-day, hands-on, intensive workshop, led by nationally recognized CAFS guru Dominic Colletti. It will allow you to pick the brains and network with the country's most experienced CAFS user and fire instructor. Come prepared to review compressed air foam application best practices for structure firefighting. This workshop has been developed for both departments who have recently become involved with CAFS and ones who have used the technology for years, but want to maximize their results. Be ready to devote two full days to learning and hands-on use of compressed air foam.

About this workshop

Day 1 is a classroom session with two field exercises on the demonstration and operation of CAFS equipped apparatus.

Day 2 is a NFPA 1403 compliant live fire training program, using a reusable burn building or a suitable acquired structure, plus additional field exercises with CAFS equipment.

This interactive and comprehensive training was developed for fire departments needing to meet the challenge of integrating compressed air foam into fire operations, and is specifically focused on reviewing knowledge needed to properly understand the successful application of compressed air foam for the structure fire attack.

The successful use of CAFS on the fireground does not require scholarly academic achievement; it requires critical thinking strategy, standard operating guidelines and hands-on tactical skills. The course is taught in a style and manner that is easily understood by firefighters, line and chief fire officers. The student will learn important steps in the process of how to integrate CAFS into a successful structure fire suppression strategy.

Course Description:

This class is focused to "level-up" all participants' understanding and insights to problem solve and successfully meet the challenges facing the fire department with CAFS implementation. It will give you the basics you need to understand the many issues surrounding integrating CAFS into your fire suppression strategy and overviews hands-on skills required to put it to use on the fireground. Specific emphasis is placed on foam delivery rates, nozzle choice and winning foam application techniques.

Agenda:

  • CAFS technology and firefighter health and safety
  • Cost/benefit of compressed air foam for your community
  • Avoiding the biggest compressed air foam implementation blunders
  • Class A and B foam concentrates and water additive properties
  • Foam proportioners
  • Air compressors for CAFS apparatus
  • Foam system maintenance
  • Nozzle Aspirated Foam Systems (NAFS) theory
  • Compressed Air Foam Systems (CAFS) theory
  • Nozzle and hose handling techniques
  • CAFS and nozzles, what works best
  • CAFS and nozzle reaction force

What previous attendees said about the Workshop:

Fire Chief Brian Spahr, Monmouth Junction Fire Department, N.J.

Big thanks to Dominic for all the help and making us successful with the use of CAFS on our new engine. Excellent classroom material, thoughtful instruction and valuable hands-on live-fire training. We were impressed with the entire workshop, including the knowledge level and experience of the instructors. Our immediate takeaway will be to update our SOGs for the effective use of CAFS and improved safety for our firefighters for structure fire attack.

Assistant Chief Don Lee, Colchester, CT, Fire Department

The CAFS Institute's training program provided a much needed jump-start into getting all of our department on the same page with Compressed Air Foam. Great instruction, well worth it, and would recommend to all departments new to CAFS!

Chief Tod Fox, Richlandtown, PA, Fire Department

“…The Institute’s Workshop helped to get all our people on the same page with using CAFS. We now have a much higher confidence level in being successful when we deploy our new CAFS engine. Kudos to the Institute for providing us with an in-depth understating of the issues…”
